Lost sheep
Imagine a love so relentless that it refuses to let you go. In one of His most profound stories, Jesus described a shepherd who left ninety-nine safe sheep in the open country to pursue a single one that wandered off. When he finally tracked it down, he wasn’t angry. Instead, he joyfully lifted it on his shoulders and carried it home, calling his neighbors to celebrate. This image is the very heartbeat of the Gospel.
You are that lost sheep. Scripture doesn’t say we wandered a "little" off course. Sin created a chasm we could never cross alone. Left to our own devices, we can no more climb our way back than a sheep can rescue itself from a deep ravine. We don't just need a moral compass. We need a Savior.
"We all, like sheep, have gone astray... and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all." (Isaiah 53:6)
So, He came for you. Jesus didn't sit on a distant throne waiting for us to clean ourselves up. He stepped into our broken world, pursued the outcasts, and did the unthinkable - the Good Shepherd became the sacrificial Lamb. He carried your guilt and shame to the cross and absorbed the judgment you deserved, so that you could receive the mercy you could never earn.
The Shepherd was broken so the sheep could be made whole.
The cross is the ultimate proof that no valley is too dark, no failure is too devastating, and no sinner is too far gone for the pursuing love of Christ. Your past can never outrun His grace.
The Shepherd is still seeking the lost. He knows exactly where you're hiding, and He's standing with open arms. Stop running and let Him carry you home.
